The Mental Health Crisis in America
The mental health crisis in America is a huge problem, and we are causing a ripple effect by not acknowledging it. According to ACU Online, the number of adolescents reporting a major depressive episode increased by 60% between 2007 and 2019. Tragically, the suicide death rate among 10-24 year olds increased by 56% during the same time period. If this trend continues, anxiety and depression will increase dramatically in the coming years. Depression and anxiety rates have increased so rapidly that the Surgeon General of the United States declared this time as a “devastating” national mental health crisis.
